Tanuj Shori, the Co-Founder and CEO of Square Yards, has been honoured with the prestigious award of the Most Enterprising CEO of the Year by ET Now. Held at the Taj Mahal Hotel, the award ceremony took place on 21st December 2018. Born in India, Shori also received his education here, though he is currently based in the UAE. He has played an instrumental role in developing the largest and fastest growing Proptech/Fintech aggregator of India, Square Yards. He has 8 years of experience in capital markets with Standard Chartered Bank, Lehman Brothers and Nomura, across Asia Pacific and US.
He also holds the credit for having led Square Yards to become one of the most diversified and trusted Real Estate Consultants at a global scale. An IIM graduate, Tanuj Shori also holds certification with SEC, FSA, and Asian securities markets. He has led Square Yards from its humble beginnings to emerge as one of the leading real estate consulting firms in India. Under his able leadership, the company has diversified into a gamut of services which pertain to real estate including marketing, events, capital, etc.
This award can be looked up to as a further encouragement of sorts for Tanuj, to provide unmatched customer service to clients and to develop a transparent environment in terms of real estate transactions. It is interesting to know that in the initial days when the company was just being incepted, Square Yards never approached VCs to raise seed capital; rather, Tanuj went to his ex clients- global fund managers, managing billions of dollars of assets to trust him with their personal capital, which he chooses to call “the smart money”. However, as far as early execution is concerned, his wife KanikaGupta Shori, a Wharton alumnus, laid the foundation. Together as a team, they sold their portfolio of houses, parental house, jewelry- everything liquid as well as illiquid investment that was possible to be mustered. In fact, the strong conviction they have about the opportunity and abut Square Yards leads them till date to save from the salary and put money back into the company.
Tanuj believes that the USP of the company is its strong change-ready DNA, which encourages the organization to go through a transformation every few months. For better or for worse, Square Yards is not driven by any best practices or benchmarks; rather, it learns the right processes in the course of its journey. The variability, complexity, and diverse issues surely make it a difficult path to charter, but what sets Square Yards apart, is its constant evolution, learning, changing, re-calibrating, and pushing the boundaries again.
