Tanuj Shori, along with his spouse Kanika Gupta Shori, founded Square Yards, as an endeavour to innovate and solve the issues faced by the common real estate investors. The objective with which he had laid the foundation of the company remains the same till date: to handhold the average buyer and offer unbiased, transparent and trustworthy information to those looking to buy/invest in real estate. The company has also earned a reputation in terms of supporting the customers with guidance on other processes involved in buying property, such as taxation, documentation, registration, and financing.

Incepted with just 3 people on-board in a small office in Hong Kong, Square Yards, a real estate start-up, in today’s times, boasts of more than 1800 employees in 36 cities in 10 countries including India, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Singapore, Hong Kong, UK, Australia, and Canada. An IIM graduate with more than 8 years of experience in Capital Markets before treading on the entrepreneurial path, Shori is a firm believer in the concept of empowering people as he holds that a company is only as good as its people. One of his key mantras is to encourage them so that they take ownership, and he also stresses on developing an aggressive corporate culture and focus on excellence in execution. He achieves this by hiring sales leaders who adopt a proactive approach and are well-equipped to build and manage large teams.

It is interesting to note that Square Yards has pioneered a new approach wherein they have introduced the concept of Principal Partners wherein each one acts as mini-CEO of their own vertical. When it comes to sales, they have adopted the concept of P&L account wherein every P&L Head is accountable for the profit and loss of their individual units. Besides, many of the practices followed by Square Yards, have become industry benchmarks of today’s times. These include, its unique sourcing strategy, multichannel distribution, sales metrics, and incentive structure, etc. Finally, what makes Square Yards a winner in the market is the fact that it is heavily PR-focused company that strongly emphasizes on the kind of people it hires and the opportunities it provides to them.
